Training session today consisted of first loading in the trailer, grooming, saddling, walk, trot, canter in the arena.
All went well until I asked him to canter. Then, and every time that I asked him to canter he came to a dead stop. No apparent reason for this, just happened.
Tried adding a riser to the saddle figuring that maybe the saddle wasn’t fitting right. Same reaction.
So then we tried bareback again, and got a repeat of the same thing.
Only idea at this point is that maybe I am trying to teach him too much, too quick, and he is getting confused.
Decided to back off a couple of days and just work on the things that he is comfortable with.
