June 30th... This blog doesn’t have much of anything to do with me training Encore, or Encore training me. I’ll try to explain.

I just got home from out of town about 2 hours ago. Immediately, I was informed of what has taken place at home for the last three days.
I seen pictures, as well as videos, of one of our horses that hasn’t been worked much lately, started doing something entirely new, that was never taught to the horse in the first place.
We have discussed this new situation, and we are totally confused on the possibilities of this happening.
Here is the situation as brief as I can put it:
We have a pasture at the end of our riding arena where we occasionally keep other horses. Very often the horses that go in this pasture will watch over the fence at the end of the arena, whenever we train other horses. So this gives everyone the basics.
So here is the new situation that happened while I was gone this week.
Serenity, decided to work one of the horses in the pasture that is at the end of the arena. The horses in this pasture have been watching me over the fence train Encore. And of course they have witnessed Encore laying down for me to mount and dismount.
This horse that Serenity decided to work while I was gone, was working perfect for her. Then all of a sudden, without being asked, or taught, when the horse came to a stop, the horse laid down for Serenity to dismount. Not just once, but several times. So many times in fact that they not only were able to take photos, but also a video.
Now my question to everyone out there, not only horse trainers, but non-horse trainers as well. Can an animal learn something by just watching another animal do something?
I really would like as many responses to this as possible. I will explain why in another blog after I get responses.
Do you know the answer?
I DO!
Also, for everyone’s information, and hopefully some of you will be excited enough to come. Serenity and I are taking Journey and Encore to a “Playday” type fun show this weekend, on July 3rd. This show is not really the speed events that most people are used to. These events, are kind of goofy little games that are strictly fun and hilarious. For an example, eat a hotdog on a stick, eat a banana, dizzy cowboy, underwear race, etc..
This will give Encore and Journey exposure to being trailered, standing at the trailer, the commotion of everything that takes place at a horseshow, and especially being asked to perform perfectly in a totally new environment.
This show is taking place Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Uncle Ike’s Riding Stable, located on County Highway “B”, in Spruce, Wisconsin.
If you wish to attend, and see two of the rookies perform under pressure here are the directions:
From the north,
Go south on U. S. 141 south of Coleman, WI, and turn right on County Highway “M”. Go to the stop sign, which is County Highway “B”. Turn left, go about 1 mile you will see a tavern on the left, turn left in the parking lot and proceed to the arena area.
From the south,
Go north on U. S. 141 to the Wisconsin Highway 22 exit at Styles Junction. At the end of the ramp turn left on Highway 22. Stay on Highway 22 thru Oconto Falls until you get to County Highway “B”. Turn right on County highway “B” about 8 or 9 miles. Watch for the sign for Spruce. There is only one tavern in Spruce and it is next to Ike’s riding stable.
We hope to see lots of people come and watch all of the competitors, not just Encore and Journey.
The rookies will have to compete against regulars at this show. YEE HAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HTML Comment Box is loading comments...![]()
