July 16th... We had company tonight...two teenage girls that have never been on a horse. Journey still needed to be worked today, so I saddled her little butt up and put one of the girls on her right away. I didn't even ride her first.

This girl was definitely scared and was clueless about riding but Journey was patient with her. Unfortunately she was almost too patient and hardly wanted to move at all. But the girl was able to get Journey to walk, turn, and stop. Journey was tolerant and quiet. Never made a wrong move.
I rode Journey afterwards, w/t/c, the normal routine, giving to the bit, pivoting, stopping, backing. Then the girl rode her again, just walking her around the arena. Meanwhile, her cousin was riding another of our geldings, cantering him all over the place nearly crashing into Journey a couple times and that little mare never blinked or flinched. Just went on with her business, walking along packing her novice rider.
My mom climbed on her for a little spin afterwards. W/t/c, spin, back, whoa... most of my horses do a little sliding stop and Journey is one of them. Mom always enjoys this. ;)
After her performance today, I think a kid could do excellent with her - make a helluva show horse out of her with the help of a riding instructor, or just enjoy her down the trail. She still has moments where she needs confidence from her rider, but most of the time Journey is content and ready to do whatever you ask. HTML Comment Box is loading comments...
