July 20th... I really did not intend to work Journey twice today. The guys came home and wanted to go out for a trail ride. I could have taken one of the other greenies or my barrel horses, but the clock is ticking and the extra miles won't hurt Journey.

She is always good to be saddled, fly sprayed, feet picked out. Takes the bridle like a champ, stands to be mounted. Just a patient mare. We had to stand around and wait for the other guys to get ready, so I got Journey all set to go and left her standing loose in the yard. She could have went to grazing, walked off or just plain run off, but she didn't. Stood stock still as I worked on helping adjust tack for a new gelding.

We headed off down the trail in the middle of a 3 horse pack ...err herd. As we went along we eventually ended up leading and following too. She is content anywhere in the group. The strange horse behind her, sticking his nose up her butt, was of no concern to her. She is a fairly dominant mare in the herd, not real aggressive but knows her place, but when she's out and working she's all business.

I did notice some sour behavior when Encore would get way ahead of us and I wanted her to stay back. No stupid behavior, just impatience, not wanting to stand.

We crossed several puddles and of the three horses on the ride, Journey was the only one that walked straight through without hesitating. She's never really had too much of a problem with water, but she gets more solid every time.

No cantering today, just some trotting and tons of walking. Hills and rough terrain. We went down some new trails, seen some stuff Journey had not seen before. She's good as gold, just goes along. The Boxer came with today too and Journey never paid any mind to her.
